There is no wrong or right in art! There is process, and that's the thing that matters the most, not the result. As long as you enjoy painting and it makes you happy, you are on the right road, everything will follow with time. Keep up the amazing work, this spidie you painted looks awesome 
You can get curious and experiment with colors, make it overly saturated, then very dissaturated, then mix it XD same with brushstrokes, edjes, speed etc. Have fun!
